On Friday 12 July 2019 Diverso has our Mid-year function. After a very busy first half of the year the celebration was well deserved.
We started the night off with dinner at RocoMamas at the Harrington – burgers, ribs and milkshakes everywhere!
With full tummies we all took a leisurely stroll to the Fugard Theatre just around the corner. Everyone would agree that this was the highlight of our night, watching the famous Kinky Boots show.
Kinky Boots is a Broadway musical with music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper and a book by Harvey Fierstein. Based on the 2005 British film Kinky Boots, written by Geoff Deane and Tim Firth and mostly inspired by true events, the musical tells the story of Charlie Price. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical, Tony Award for Best Original Score, Tony Award for Best Choreography and Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical, Kinky Boots has played to sold out houses on Broadway and in the West End since 2013. This mega-hit is a must see for all musical theatre fans.
The storyline – Charlie Price has reluctantly inherited his father’s shoe factory, Price & Son, which is on the verge of bankruptcy. Trying to live up to his father’s legacy and save his family business, Charlie finds inspiration in the form of Lola, a fabulous entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos. As they work to turn the factory around, this unlikely pair find that they have more in common than they ever dreamed possible, and discover that when you change your mind about someone, you can change your whole world.
The Fugard Theatre’s Kinky Boots is brought to you by the same creative team behind the Fugard Theatre productions of The Rocky Horror Show, Cabaret, Funny Girl and West Side Story.
“We are honoured to be presenting the South African premiere, created by an all-star team, of this hit musical that has captured the hearts of international audiences,” says Daniel Galloway, Managing Director of the Fugard Theatre. “Kinky Boots has it all – a beautiful story of hope, inspiration and friendship, combined with fabulous music, glittering costumes, breath-taking choreography and plenty of heart. We cannot wait to welcome our audiences to this Fugard Theatre original production of an International smash hit!”
The show is currently running at the Fugard Theatre until 27 October 2019 if you would still like to book a spot.
